ELECTROTHERAPIES

INFRARED THERAPY

When infrared light is applied to a damaged area, it provides energy to compromised cells and increases blood flow to the target area, increasing the speed at which healing occurs.

This means that the Photizo Vetcare can be used to provide pain relief and stimulate healing in a wide variety of cases, including but not limited to:

  • Wounds

  • Muscle tears

  • Tendon and Ligament injuries

  • Arthritis

  • Elbow and hip dysplasia

  • Swelling/inflammation

  • Stress fractures

  • Cartilage damage

It can therefore be used in combination with manual therapies to assist in providing a full release of tightened muscles and reducing pain in sore joints.

NEUROMUSCULAR ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (NMES)

Application of a NMES machine allows electrical impulses to be sent to a muscle or muscle group, exciting the nerves and causing muscular contraction.

In normal voluntary contraction, smaller Type I muscle fibres are recruited before larger Type II fibres, which are used for harder, more intense exercise. NMES recruits fibres in the opposite order, so that Type II fibres are stimulated first. This allows a higher load to be put through the muscles and therefore increased strengthening.

Use of NMES is generally associated with animals who are unable to use their limbs properly to generate their own muscular contractions, for example in neurological cases.
